Why I spin dog hair
I'm Andrea Devine and I live in a 200 year old cottage in a village in Essex, England.
I have always enjoyed art and craft and was taught to knit when I was 5 years old. The first thing I knitted was a doll's jumper which I was very pleased with. I used to design and make Teddy Bears out of beautiful Mohair, but now my real passion is spinning dog hair. My inspiration came from my two English Cocker Spaniels, Frankie and Freddie. They have lovely silky fur which I used to save after grooming them. One day I decided to make something out of it as I wanted to keep a memento, a keepsake, of them. I was amazed at how lovely the end product turned out. A friend's dog, a Golden Retriever called Solo, was the first dog's fur I used that was not from my own dogs. I made a cushion which turned out well, my friend was thrilled. I was hooked and knew this was what I wanted to do.. Since then I have spun dog hair from many different types of dog. I have even spun cat fur. To see some of my favourites follow these links: - |
